Christine Swarts (Thii wun a maat) is a registered member of Cowichan Tribes, First Nations Band of British Columbia. With more than 30 years of administrative experience across multiple industries, she now manages all administration for her family construction company. She dedicated 12 years to the Native American Studies Program in Fremont. From Parent Advisory Committee Chair and Events Coordinator to Community Liaison for the Fremont Unified School district, she supported students and families through culturally grounded programming and community engagement. She then went on to join the American Indian Alliance as a council member which broadened her involvement in the San Jose community.

Christine also participated for over a decade in the 500 Mile American Indian Spiritual Marathon as a Spirit Runner and Run Captain. She is a new member of the California Indian Basket Weavers Association (CIBA) and is thoroughly enjoying learning about the materials and weaving techniques of California Indian basket weavers. She brings a practical background from her family business, along with a deep respect for the land and a growing commitment to community engagement and service.

Christine lives in Fremont with her husband of 30 years, and their two grown children reside out of state. As she looks ahead to create a welcoming space for future generations, she is honored to serve on the Board of Directors alongside her fellow members.
